The Sacromonte district is located on the extension of the hill of
Albaizin in town of Granada, along the Darro River and facing the Alhambra. It is a special enclave with a group of caves that have great historical value. The zone is a protected cultural environment under the auspices of the Centro de Interpretación del Sacromonte, a cultural center dedicated to the preservation of Gitano cultural forms.
Sacromonte caves have been home of gypsies, bohemians and Flemish artists. They are grouped around ravines, forming a kind of streets. There are caves of several categories. The best known to visitors are those devoted to Zambra: spacious, white and adorned with shiny copper pots. The area has a reputation as a major center of flamenco song and dance.
