The remains of city of Recópolis are located on a hill, one kilometer south-west from the village of Zorita de los Canes. The site of Recópolis was founded in 578 by King Leovigildo in memory of his son Recaredo. It is one of the few preserved remains of Visigoths culture. There are still well-preserved objects as the castle (palace), the Visigoth basilica, the aqueduct and the quarries from various periods, as well as pathways, waterways and medieval mills.
