Fountain of Cid
Type: Fountain
The fountain of Cid (Fuente del Cid) is located south-west of Sayalonga. It was the principal supply of drinking water in Arab times for the population on their way to their labours in the countryside. Probably (it is a legend) the name of the fountain originated from the name El Cid Campeador who drunk water from this fountain on one of his visit to the area.
There are olive trees near to the fountain and oil extracted from them were used to make candles which were burnt on the day of celebrations for the Patron Saint of Sayalonga, the Virgen de Rosario on the 7th of October each year.
