Museum of Peace (Muzeo De La Paz) in Gernika explores the concept of peace as well as chronicling the bombing of Gernika during the Spanish Civil War. On 26 April 1937 the request of General Franco, German and Italian planes dropped bombs on Gernika resulting in nearly 1700 deaths.
The museum was founded on 7th April 1998 by the the Town Hall in a building designed by Manuel Smith and previously been used by the Courts, the post office and Telegraph service.
