The Fishermen Museum (Museo del Pescador) is located in the pretty fishing port of Bermeo, around 36 km north-east of Bilbao. From 1948 it is housed in Torre de Ercilla (Ercilla Tower) - the biggest landmark in the town, famous as the birthplace of Alonso de Ercilla, author of one of the best epic poem in Spanish - "La Araucana".
There are exhibited lots of objects related to the Basque fishermen - customs, boats, navigation systems, maps and descriptions of the Basque coasts and fishing ports. There is also a library specialising in fishing and sea-related topics.
