Montjuic Castle

The Montjuic Castle (El Castell de Montjuic) is located on Montjuic hill, Barcelona overlooking the town and the commercial harbor. The highest point of Montjuic Castle is around 170 meters above city of Barcelona which provides a spectacular views of the sea and city. There is a cable car to the site.
The fortification dates back to the XVII-th and XVIII-th Centuries. In the past the Castle was used as a state prison for local rebels and political captives and in the late XIX-th century there were executed many people.
Nowadays at the territory of the Montjuic fort are located also "The Military Museum" (there are displayed an impressive collection of weapons, military relics and artifacts from around the world) and "Museum of Comics and Illustration" where is documented the history and evolution of the Spanish comic book genre from the XIX-th century until today.
