What to see in Municipality Carballeda de Avia

The monastery of San Estevo de Ribas do Sil is situated near municipality of Carballeda de Avia, province of Ourense, Galicia.

The monastery dates, following print sources, from the X century, although it is thought that it was erected in the VI century over a pre-existing temple by Saint Martín Dumiense between year 550 and 555. In 1835 it suffered the efects of a massive real state church selling. In year 1923 the monastery was declared as Historic-Artistic Heritage and nowadays it is a state-run hotel, a Parador Nacional.
