Teruel Cathedral
The Cathedral St. Mary in Teruel is a notable example of Mudéjar architecture. The Cathedral is one of the most emblematic building of Aragon and is listed in the UNESCO Heritage site Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon since 1986.
The cathedral was created as a church when the town was founded by Alfonso II of Aragon, who ordered its construction. It was in Romanesque style and entitled to St. Mary de Mediavilla. The current Mudéjar style was given in the 13th and 14th century when the Romanesques apses where replaced by Gothic-Mudéjar.
The exterior is completed with a representation of the neo-Mudejar style in its main front. Once inside, it retains its original medieval works of three naves covered with flat wooden roof and side walls with a splendid pair and knuckle armor plant, the only vestige of its kind in Aragon, and regarded as the "Sistine Chapel of Mudejar art" for the pictorial decoration.
