The Feria del Caballo (Horse Fair) is held in early May in town of Jerez de la Frontera. It is the city's biggest annual event, when everyone dons riding gear or flamenco dresses and parades up and down on equine beauties or sits behind a team of horses astride a stunningly decorated carriage. The festival was started in 1289 as a livestock market and has developed into a show of the most beautiful horses in Spain, some of which are Spanish Barbs, Friesians and Iberian crosses.
