Nature reserve of Sa Dragonera
Type: Reserve
Sa Dragonera island is 4-km long and just off Sant Elm beach (south west of Majorca island), several kilometer from Andratx. The island`s highest point, Na Popis (360 metres high), is geologically an extension of the Sierra de Tramuntana Mountains. Almost all its coastline is made up of abrupt cliffs, especially in the north-east part.
One of the most striking features of the island is the old lighthouse right at the summit of Na Popis.
The island hosts some real treasures, with a wide variety of flora and fauna. Vegetation is based on traditionally Mediterranean species, such as rosemary, heather, wild olive trees, buckthorns, dwarf palms, etc. It`s also a birdwatcher`s paradise, watch out for Leonor falcons, Cory`s shearwaters and European shags.
