Saint Peters' Church in Almeria was built by order of the Catholic Monarchs in the year 1494 on the site of an old mosque. The church was destroyed by an earthquake in 1790 and rebuilt in 1796 in the neoclassical style. The frescos on the dome of the high altar were painted by Fray Juan García.
