Cueva de los Verdes

Cueva de los Verdes is located east of town of Haria at the island of Lanzarote (Canary Islands). The cave is a lava tube - natural conduit through which lava travels beneath the surface of a lava flow, expelled by a volcano during an eruption. It was created before around 3,000 years ago from a volcanic eruption in La Corona.
The cave is 7 kilometers long, from which 2 kilometers are developed and part of it is covered by sea water.
In the past inhabitants of Lanzarote island used the cave to protect themselves from pirates. Nowadays, except a tourist attraction, the cave is used also for musical concerts. There is a hall, located near the entrance and the exit, with around 500 seats.
Cueva de los Verdes is a protected area of the Canary Islands. Not far away from it is located an other sight - Jameos Del Aqua.
