Santa Catalina is a small fortress situated on the Northern edge of Santa Cruz de La Palma, in the environs of La Alameda, overlooking the town. With its thick stone walls the fort was part of the defensive belt that once protected the city and was deflected many attacks from pirates and corsairs that laid siege to the archipelago.
